Details of the experience
Next to the white town of Istán is the place known as El Coto, formed by an old network of Moorish ditches that still serve to transport the water that rises at the source of the Molinos River to irrigate the orchards that make up the place.
At the source of the river that supplies the consumption of drinking water on the Costa del Sol, our delicious walk begins between orchards and terraces that integrate perfectly with the Mediterranean forest, creating a unique landscape on the Costa del Sol, which shows that it is possible a sustainable use of our natural resources.
A conscious walk that we will enjoy with all five senses; The calm that the sound of the water as it passes will provide us, will serve as a balm to intoxicate us with the colors of the forest and the smells of fruit trees and aromatic herbs as we pass, in a symphony for the senses led by the singing of wild birds.
Between ditches, following the course of the water, we will reach the town of Istán, of Moorish origin, which is today the gateway to the Sierra de las Nieves National Park. Crossing its narrow streets and squares, where water appears in fountains at every step, we will arrive at the Mirador del Embalse de la Concepción, built in 1.972, with an area of 214 ha. and a capacity of 56 hm3. that supplies drinking water to the entire Costa del Sol. A landscape that does not fit in a photograph will become a gift for our eyes.
The experience is completed with a visit to one of the last beekeepers on the Costa del Sol, who will open the doors of his small artisan factory where we will make a honey tasting being able to buy avocado, chestnut, thousand flower or orange honey, helping bees and beekeepers not to disappear, essential for the development of our ecosystem and human life.
And if you wish we can reserve a table at the Roots Restaurant, our recommended place to enjoy our most authentic gastronomy accompanied by the best views.
