PILLARS OF HERCULES
Our day trip to Gibraltar consists of four stops that take approximately two hours. One of the most fascinating places of this visit is "The Pillars of Hercules". There, in the Pillars, you can enjoy the views of North Africa, Morocco. You will see where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. It will be at the southernmost point of the continent, "The tip of Europe."
NATURAL RESERVE AND CAVE OF SAN MIGUEL
Our second stop in the nature reserve will be in the cave of San Miguel. Which sees thousands of visitors a year wandering through its huge caverns with only a few steps and easy access. This amazing natural phenomenon created by rainwater slowly seeping through limestone rock, turning into a weak carbonic acid that gradually dissolves the rock. It is the most visited cave on the Rock of Gibraltar, with approximately 1.000.000 visitors a year.
VIEWS FROM THE TOP OF THE PEÑÓN
Next, we will go to the Rock of Gibraltar, where you can see the breathtaking views around Gibraltar. Here we will have an interaction with our famous monkeys. Barbary macaques are the only ones found on the European continent. They reside in the nature reserve of the upper rock of Gibraltar. There are currently more than 200 monkeys in 9 packs that roam across the top of The Rock. Legend has it that in 1942 the monkey population was reduced to only 7 of these and the Prime Minister of Great Britain (Sir Winston Churchill) immediately ordered the repopulation of the apes. Because according to him, as long as there are Barbary macaques on the Rock of Gibraltar, they will belong under British rule.
MONKEYS AND TUNNELS
From the monkey area we will head to the north side of the Rock to visit the Great Siege Tunnels. This place transmits the history of Gibraltar to us. The tunnels were built by man during the Great Siege that took place during the years 1779-1783. It was built in order to defend Gibraltar against Spanish and French forces when they tried to take back Gibraltar from the British. Followed by the stay in the Natural Reserve of the Rock of Gibraltar, we will go to the outside of the Arab Castle and to the old town of Gibraltar.
To end this wonderful tour, if you are interested in visiting the rest of the city and the main street, we can supply you with a map and a guide to visit the pedestrian areas of the city, for those who want to shop or eat in one of the many restaurants that Gibraltar offers.
At the end of your free time in Gibraltar, our driver will be waiting for you in the Spanish border area, to return you to your hotel or place of residence during your holidays.
